Dictionary Day 2019 at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University

Iin 2019, the Lexicographic Centre at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University joined the Dictionary Day celebrations and organized two events together with MA students in lexicography. On December 11, a conference was held to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Marjory Wardrop’s birth, the outstanding British Kartvelologist, the first translator of Shota Rustaveli’s (12th century) poem “The Man in the Panther’s Skin” in English. For this date, a book was published by the Lexicographic Centre containing Marjory Wardrop’s unfinished English-Georgian Dictionary. The manuscript Dictionary was digitalized and studied by three generations of MA students in lexicography.

The second event was held on December 22. Students of the MA program in Lexicography presented the first Bilingual Georgian-English Dictionary of TSU Student Slang, compiled by them under the supervision of invited scholar, Professor of New Jersey City University Donna Farina.
