The EMLex students of the Tullio De Mauro and the Maria Moliner classes have compiled six episodes of a series called “EMLex students are proud of their home universities”:

In this fifth episode of our “EMLex students are proud of their home universities” series, Chien-An, Ksenia, and Lanfeng share their opinion of the Uniwersytet Śląski w Katowicach (US, Katowice, Poland) with us:

“I am proud of my home university because I have a ‘yuán fèn’ with it. ‘Yuán fèn’ (緣分) is a cultural concept in East Asia, rooting from Buddhism, which, depending on context, translates into ‘destiny’, ‘coincidence’, or ‘bond among people’. Getting a job, having acquaintances or even relationships, being infected with a virus, being fond of EMLex or the US: all are explicable based on this concept. It would be very difficult to compile a dictionary entry for ‘yuán fèn’, but this does not prevent me from proudly proclaiming: I have a ‘yuán fèn’ with this university, this city, this country!” (Chien-An)

“I am proud of my home university because of its wonderful people.” (Ksenia)

“I am proud of my home university because it witnesses how I react to the hardness: from panic to composedness.” (Lanfeng)
